Our Whole School Improvement Focus

At Glenwood State School, implementing the Australian Curriculum, developing quality reading processes through “Reading across all learning areas" and differentiating for every student through a (MTSS) Multi-Tiered Support Model.  All staff carefully analyse and discuss each student's progress to inform our teaching approaches, making adjustments for students who need extra support and providing additional challenges for gifted learners. We hold a strong belief that every student can learn, thrive, and become a successful lifelong learner. Our students, staff, and families all share high expectations that every child will receive the knowledge and skills they need for future success. Our school is fortunate to be supported by a dedicated community. The Glenwood P&C listens to families and advocates through the P&C to ensure our students and teachers have access to the best resources.

We use our school resources strategically to strengthen the curriculum, reading and differentiating for every student, throughout every year level. The 'School Budget" allows us to provide increased teacher aide hours, (a teacher aide in every classroom full time) which enables targeted support and interventions to occur.  Full time teacher aides means that every student receives more daily individualised support. Every teacher and teacher aide effectively provides any necessary interventions to students and is equipped to teach and support through “High Quality teaching and learning" the Australian Curriculum, reading processes and provide adjustments based on student's needs. This is achieved through ongoing, planning, moderating, case management of student's work, co-teaching and high-quality professional development.  All staff complete a Personalised Learning Goal each year that is aligned with the School (AIP) Annual Improvement Plan.

Our teachers work closely with the Principal and Head of Special Education to deliver the Australian curriculum tailored to the needs of all students.

Glenwood State School is proud of the achievements where over 95% of students attain a C or higher in Maths and English and 50% achieve a B or higher in Maths and English.  Our behaviour shows a 8:1 Positive behaviour ratio to a single behaviour incident.

The name Glenwood is a comination of two words: "glen" and "wood". The word "glen" refers to a narrow valley, typically with a stream running through it, while "wood" describes an area covered with trees. When these two words are merged, they create a name that evokes the image of a pictureque valley filled with lush vegetation.

Our vision for Glenwood is creating a beautiful place to belong, inspire and grow, where we are always doing our best.

Our staff and students show our commitment to the vision through our values:

  • Achieving your best - Being An Active Learner
  • Being Respectful and Responsible
  • Caring, kind and confident - Being Safe.
