Parent Teacher interviews
Parent - Teacher partnerships are vital relationships which foster the right support for each student.
We encourage parents to make contact via phone, email or through Class DoJo. The preferred communication is sent out by your child's class teacher in their first Class Communication letter at the beginning of the school year.
Formal Interviews:
Parents are invited to attend parent teacher interviews midway through Term 1 and early Term 3 to discuss student's learning progress to date, areas of growth and areas for further development. These interview times and dates are sent out to parents via an invitation letter, school Newsflash and advertised within the School Newsletter and on Facebook.
Reading Statement:
Learning to read transforms the lives of ALL students. At Glenwood State School we understand that reading is the basis for the acquisition of knowledge, for cultural engagement, for equity and excellence and leading to the future success as our students transition to high school and the future workforce. Our reading pedagogy and processes are embedded within the learning areas of the Australian Curriculum and World Class teaching and researched quality learning pedagogies utilising PLD and multi-tiered systems of support.
The vital necessity of reading.
Reading is one of the most important skills children can learn at school.
"Reading helps children learn to make sense not only of the world around them but also people, building social-emotional skills and of course, imagination. Reading exposes us to other styles, other voices, other forms, and other types of writing".
Homework and reading
During the early years of Prep to Year 3 - Home Reading is an essential component each day as it provides children with the opportunity to practise skills and strategies they are being taught at school, sharing their learning with their families and develop a love of reading and sharing books.
During the Middle School years of Year 4 to Year 6 - Reading a variety of fiction and non fiction books, magazines, brochures and online readers provides our students with the opportunity to 'love and enjoy reading' as well as to comprehend the information they read as either 'fictional' or 'factual'. All texts assist students in their literacy across all learning areas (English, Maths, Science, HASS, Technologies, LOTE, H&PE and The ARTS).
Glenwood's homework program identifies Reading as a vital part of our Homework program and suggests 10-15 minutes reading per night in Prep to Year 3 and 25-30 minutes in Year 4 to Year 6.
